Victron VE.Direct LoRaWAN module
The Victron VE.Direct LoRaWAN module is an IoT gateway device, which allows you to connect other Victron equipment, such as your Battery Monitor (BMV); Solar Charger; or Phoenix Inverter, to the Victron Remote Management (VRM Portal) portal. The Victron monitoring portal is available to use free of charge, and from it you can view the status of your installation from anywhere in the world using your desktop device or mobile phone.
The LoRaWAN module (Long Range Wide Area Network module) is designed to connect only to the free TTN (the things network), which in Australia operations between 915 and 928Mhz, so a bit like WiFi, but with a range up to 15km. A bit like a free, long range wifi network for connected devices, able to be monitored over the internet. The Internet of Things.
The thethingsnetwork.org describes their free network this way:
“The Things Network is about enabling low power Devices to use long range Gateways to connect to an open-source, decentralized Network to exchange data with Applications and Platforms.”
The Australian TTN network will cover Australian Cities and county areas: see the network coverage in Australia. You could also purchase your own gateway if you live outside the coverage area, even creating your own extensions of The Things Network.
