Most on and offgrid systems qualify for government solar and battery rebates:

• Solar rebates apply to approved panels up to 100KW, installed by a CEC qualified installer
• Battery rebates apply for approved batteries for ongrid and for offgrid systems over 1KM from grid, or costing more than $30K to connect
• Rebates apply for heat pump Hot Water systems
• Battery rebates up to 100KWh, apply to first 50KWh of batteries

Battery Rebates Explainer

As with solar panels, Australia’s government is offering a ‘rebate’ to install new batteries in offgrid and ongrid systems.  Here is how it works:

• Like the solar rebate, it is claimable via tradable certificates (STCs) meaning:
  • The batteries must be listed on the CEC battery list;
  • It must be installed by a SAA certified installer.
• How many batteries? :  UP to 50KWh claimable, for systems up to 100KWh in size.

• How long will it last?  Till 2030, gradually reducing every year.
• How do I get the rebate?  You need 3 things: a listed battery, a qualified installer, and for them to following the rules and claim, so it is practically used to offset the price of an installed battery system, from a certified installer or retailer.
• Does the rebate apply to upgrades?  Partly, the rebate can only be claimed once per system, so for a system installed with rebates, rebates are not claimable on upgrades.
• What about upgrades for pre-rebate systems?  As long as the upgrade follows the 3 key rules above (CEC listed battery, installer, rule-adherence), upgrades are claimable, but only once.
• What installed ecoCool offgrid batteries are CEC listed?  ZYC Simpo 5KWh, Ausetech 5KWh lithium, Aeson Power APS5000, 5KWh, and others. 

Extra details, for offgrid systems near grid

• “Offgrid” classified systems, must be over 1km from a main gridline, or be $30K or more to connect;
• Offgrid systems do not have to be VPP capable, although in practice ecoCool’s systems generally are;
• The rebates are available for Homeowners, Small businesses and Community facilities.
